The Beginning and History of Glenhelm
The beginning of Glenhelm dates back to 1946, when founder Walter Croll established the Millbrook Bedding Company in Southampton, the center of Britain’s shipping industry.
After the war, seeking a new path, he began producing beds together with skilled craftsmen, and his reputation soon spread throughout the UK. The craftsmanship and philosophy inherited from Millbrook became the foundation of Glenhelm’s values today, developing into a brand that preserves tradition while advancing with innovation in a new era.
From the 1960s onwards, Millbrook expanded beyond bed-making into aviation, shipping, and government projects. It undertook the interior and furniture of the great ocean liner QE2 (Queen Elizabeth 2), restored the green leather benches of the House of Commons, and participated in renovation projects for government buildings in London. Millbrook also worked with the defense industry on the Mobile Military project, supplying furniture and bedding for military and special purposes. Through this process, Millbrook established itself not just as a bed brand, but as one of Britain’s leading names in fine furniture and interiors.
